Community Consultation
The following is a list of the points raised at the community consultation meeting. These will be turned into questions for the offiicial questionnaire so that we can find the degree of agreement or disagreement with each point among the residents of Farringdon.
Tourism
- Farringdon needs more B&Bs
- Farringdon needs an Arts and Crafts centre
- Display the local B&Bs and accommodation
- Display of local heritage/art facts
- Farringdon should be on a Tourist Trail
- Revive the French Twinning
Social & Leisure
- Need a sports field
- Need more FSA type events
- Need more social gatherings
- Need a pub (with a play area)
- Extend Crealy good neighbour day/Children’s Christmas Party
- Computer classes and monthly computer clinic
- Charity Safari suppers (house-to-house)
- Support village hall activities
- Local produce market
Transport
- Need more buses
- Need speed bumps
- Need speed limits on village roads
- Highways to review recently increased traffic
- Introduce HGV restrictions on B3184
- Remove airport direction sign on A3052
- Introduce speed camera on A3052
- A3052 needs resurfacing
- Smaller buses needed
- B3184 restricted by yield and give way signs
- Improve driver awareness on A3052 (driver standards not just about speed)
- Develop Green pavements
- Introduce safe cycle routes
- Need a bus shelter on Sidmouth Road
- Clyst Vale bus should pick up in village, not main road
Health and well-being
- Difficult to get to doctors (for example) for non-drivers
- Vandalism is increasing
- Burglary increasing
- Too much noise from lorries
- Sustain local businesses to avoid commuting
- Start community volunteer drivers scheme (shops, doctor)
- Need dog control outside Gypsy camp (several people bitten)
Environment
- Need to protect trees and hedges
- Farringdon could be tidied up generally
- Farringdon must continue to evolve but sympathetically to the environment
- Do not want ‘alien’ heavy industrial expansion in this rural area.
- Stop fly tipping
- More footpaths in village (e.g. to join with other parishes)
- Cut out practice flights by aircraft large or small
- Landfill sites should be checked and monitored
- Noise: A30 tarmac and airport night works
- Light pollution increasing
Children and youth
- Need a regular teens club
- Need a children’s play area
- Need a skateboarding area
- Can Crealy help more?
- Need a sportsfield/picnic/play area
- Youth centre (village hall)
Services
- Introduce Parish recycling centre for plastic, cardboard, glass, etc
- More recycle collections (weekly)
- Bulk buying of oil
- More access to parish council (email, clinic, phone)
- Computer & internet broadband access in Village Hall
- Need more services to visit Village Hall:

- community safety sessions

- Small businesses to be encouraged in keeping with rural setting
- Organic farming

Church and Village Hall
- Better parking at Village Hall
- New lavatories
- New kitchen
- Resurface parking and landscape
- Greening outside, plants, etc
- Plant stone walled garden outside village hall
- Tidy up small churchyard with the skinners grave and repair iron cross
- Provide a bench in churchyard
- Get the Village Hall clock working again
- Make Village Hall free for village events and open evenings
- Weekends for casual use (table tennis, etc)
- Provide lights in car park
- Provide ashtray outside village hall
Housing
- Need some affordable housing
- Do not need more gypsy sites
- Centre should be developed (e.g. removal of barns, replace with housing with the centre opened up around the church)
- Planning restrictions need to be eased to allow sympathetic development
- Need to define how large we want the community to grow (need to retain village status, so limits on housing, businesses, farming developments need to be agreed
